Dirty but the foam hasn't broken up anywhere like some fear... I daily it and drive lots of highway miles though.

Working as it should, people still thinking its the 90s. Change it often and it wont be an issue. Love mine.

Switching to a cone filter will get you a lot more longevity. If you have the open box HKS intake, you can put on most 100mm/4" inlet cone filters. The enclosed CF box model may take some trial and error or measuring to find one compact enough to fit inside.

The replacement HKS filter is the 200mm Red Wet Oiled 2-Layer model (70001-AK032). The 200mm Green Dry 3-Layer filter (70001-AK022) is also compatible.

From HKS:
"For proper product performance, replace the air filter element at regular intervals:
* Approximate change period:

Dry type: after 6 to 12 months, or drive 6,000km to 10,000km (3700-6200 miles)

Wet type: after 3 to 6 months, or drive 3,000km to 5,000km (1800-3100 miles)

* There are certain conditions where, depending on dirt buildup, the filter may need to be replaced earlier than the above recommended intervals."

Reviving this thread. I bought a replacement filter are we suppose to oil it ourselves. It's just dry out of package.

So oil it ourselves?
The answer is yes, but I also wish he was more concise than an emoji response

Dry only traps the largest particles, so for proper function it needs a film of oil to trap the smallest dust particles.

Thank you. HKS rep basically told me it was suppose to be oiled from factory. Guess they were wrong.
