So, I wrote a script nearly a year ago about the reemergence of Japanese sports cars, but the time never felt right to make the video. With the GR Supra unveiled, I feel like now's a great time to ponder on the possibility of another "golden age" for Japanese sports cars.

Enjoy!

Great clip! I think we can all agree, Nissan still holds the title for being the most “Performance Driven” auto maker of the bunch...and that’s not coming from a “Nissan fanboy” that’s coming from a auto-enthusiast. This is where Toyota (of all the Japanese brands) fails. I love Toyota very much, and personally own and have owned some of their best cars and suv’s. However, they have never been a perormance-focused company. They seem to be in this mindset of “if we just call it a Supra, GT-86, MR-S, FJ Cruiser, etc...) that everyone will buy it!” Be original for once, and come up with something new and purely Toyota. I know they can do it, but they seem to be very focused on profit, finances, and wrong advice! You want to hear a true story, Toyota wanted to revive the FJ40 with the FJ Cruiser as neary identical as possible, basically a Toyota Wrangler. When they sought the advice of enthusiasts, they made the mistake of taking advice from Jonathan Ward of ICON/TLC (he restores old FJ’s) and came out with what the entire fanbase (including myself) believe to be the worst FJ design in history. Jonathan knew what he was doing by leading Toyota into a wrong direction so his compay would stay in business. What happened to the FJ Cruiser? Right. However, had Toyota listened to the real enthusiasts who yearn for these cars as hardcore off-road boxes, they would have created a utilitarian FJ that closely resembled the original FJ40. This continues to be Toyota’s problem, and the MKV Supra is no exception. Tada took advice from Supra enthusiasts???? I have yet to hear any Supra enthusiast say, “i prefer a DSG over a 6spd” or “give me a BMW straight six and ill be happy.” Even though Nissan isn’t as financially successful as Toyota, they are very successful in knowing what their performance enthusiasts want and expect.

I can’t comment any further on the MKV Supra’s drivetrain, but I can confidently say that if the drivetrain is not what the enthusiasts want....the MKV will be an epic failure for Toyota. Still have faith in Toyota on the MKV and hope it will be a worthy successor.

I see negativity towards the Supra and Toyota for a car that we dont even know the final specs yet, not sure why...
I’m still trying to stay positive! Still very happy to see a Toyota halo car. I think the MKV Supra looks fantastic! However, just like the GT-R, I am not very concerned with the aesthetics of a performance car. That’s what Toyota and Honda are trying to do....”make it look good, and everyone won’t care what the hell is underneath the skin.” Nissan has said repeatedly that the GT-R is more function over form. The MKIV Supra was just that....a mechanically sound sports car that looked like a Celica on steroids. This is what people want....function over form!

I lost hope in Mitsubishi, but Mazda is most definitely testing something.

The RX-8 is hideous! Good lord, how did Mazda go from a beautiful work of art like the FD RX-7 to that!?!?!?!
