Is this plastic piece supposed to be on there saw that some dealerships forget to take em off was wondering if this is it? Thank you

I’ve got a pic (somewhere) of my kid in his electric toy car, taking a photo with his playskool camera, of my real car being towed out of my driveway by AAA - when I started changing my own brakes many cars ago…. 🫣 😅

Might be a dumb question, but shouldn't the rubber strut dust boot attach to the bottom plastic piece? Fully protecting the strut?

Sometimes, but on most BMW suspensions the dust boot is a little shorter. So when the car is lifted up, the boot is pulled upward, as it is semi connected to the top spring and bearing. It's not connected at bottom.
