Should I lower my 2.0?

Hey all,

I plan on keeping my 2.0 for another year, but I eventually plan on trading it in (or potentially selling it) to pick up a new M2. Entering my 40th year of life next year, I want more power and a manual transmission.

Anyway, I've owned my 2.0 for three years and love it. Power mods are a catless DP, full exhaust, xHP transmission tune, and a RaceChip. Cosmetic mods are a few bits of carbon and TE37s. My goal was an upgraded turbo, upgraded brakes, lowered, and a front lip; but with my mind all but made up on an M2, I'm wondering if it's even worth lowering the car. I don't even think there's all but one set of springs designed for the weight of the 2.0, but, also, would a lowered car lower (heh) my value at trade in?

Car is immaculate otherwise, has front PPF and full ceramic. I've decided not to go with the upgraded turbo or brakes, although I might paint the calipers still. I'm probably going to buy a front lip, too, to complete the exterior of the car. I'm just torn on whether to lower or not, and advice would be appreciated. The springs aren't that expensive, installation would be free by me, and then I would just need an alignment in 100 miles or so; right? Also, send links for favorite front lips. I'm having a hard time deciding.

Thanks,
BK

Will you be selling the car privately yourself or to a dealership?

I think I'll try to sell it privately with the wheels and mods, but, if not, will return to stock for a trade-in and sell the mods separately. I haven't sold a car in the private marketplace since my 2005 SRT-4; so no idea what to expect and if people will have 40k on-hand to buy a used automobile. I think I got $13,000 for my SRT in 2008...

Definitely lower it. You can put back to stock before the M2 and sell the aftermarket springs to recoup some of your money.

If you're gonna try to sell everything as a package, private market is definitely the way to go. Having the car lowered may be a plus to someone who is looking so I think you should go for it. If anything, you could always remove them and sell second hand. Not to mention, it looks way better.

Good front lips to consider (imo):

AERO7 Carbon Fiber Front Lip ā€“ Sayber Design
Carbon Composites & Aero Creations (aeroluxeautoboutique.com)
ADRO USAGlossy Wet Carbon Fiber Front Lip Toyota GR Supra A90 2020+ | A18A20-1201 (vividracing.com)
Seibon - MB-Style Carbon Fiber Front Lip, MKV MKV Toyota Supra GR A90 (a90shop.com)

Probably missing a few but just off the top of my head. The Adro one has been growing on me cause the side profile looks aggressive.

Also, not sure how many miles you've put on the soup but considering the mods you've done, I don't think you'll have an issue with getting $40k. That's ballpark what they're going for right now depending on mods and setup. Possibly a little bit lower if completely stock.

Thanks, Adrian! I've put about 21k in three years of ownership, mostly highway miles driving six hours to see my girlfriend in internship. Thankfully, that's done in a couple of months, and it can go back to sitting in my garage. If I could get close to 40 for it, I would be ecstatic, as I only paid 42,500 for it brand-new. It's got the safety and tech package as well.

People hate on the 2.0, but it's a pretty good performance bargain all things considered. I'm still waiting for a turbo kit to get them easily into the 11s, but it's plenty fast for the back roads around here. I'm actually wondering if the M2's 450 hp is too much for the street. Only one way to find out, though...

My advice is going to be opposite. your heart is already set on the next car. it's going to take a fair bit of time to de-mod the car and sell the parts, you might as well get a head start on it now, rather than waiting for the last minute and scrambling.

if you Continue to mod this car, all you're going to do is daydream about spending the money to mod the M2. If anything, buy M2 springs to motivate yourself

Yeah, that was my thought as well, but I want to save up this fall/winter to pay cash for the M2, and, also, I'm waiting for an allocation for MY 2025. I want to spec my own and like the new blue color coming in '25, plus allegedly a bump in HP and a front-bumper redesign. I will most likely have the Supra for another six to nine months I would think.

Tried slapping some drags on their to get that launch time down? May get more bang out of it and keep her? I took mine to a local BMW specialists shop. The owner actually builds BMW race engines and drag races etc. I went to him for a custom rear end with and LSD. Which for 3K he said he could do but he said "lets go for a little ride" and he drove my car. He showed me how to launch it correctly and got both tires to grip with that open diff. He spun out a long time and was amazed by the power the B46 put out. I'm catless DP with and E30 map from Jessie and XHP. Understand amazed by what the B46 could do in regards to a 4 banger. He also had an 4 series M4 putting out 650 hp on E85 in his shop. He said first thing is that I need some grip and recommended a drag tire. He said I may not want to even need the rear end LSD after I slap some gripper tires on it. So, right now I'm staring at either trading her in on a 2020 Launch edition with a higher note or getting some Nitto 555 R2's then doing Femto and a navardi E85 tune #decisions

I'm curious what your performance figures are? I still need to buy a few other things before going custom tune and e map.

Sell the parts like someone else said and get the car back to stock for sale. In meantime save your cash for your next vehicle / build. Donā€™t toss anymore cash into this car.

Just my two cents.

Drag 0-60 4.41 (pulled a 4.38 but was invalid), 1/8 8.27 @ 89.63, 1/4 13.07 @87.07 Iā€™ve never really tried for a good quarter bc police patrol a lot on these areas and looks like I backed off the pedal on that one bc my 1,000ft was 10.66 @ 98.72 so may could have been in the high 12ā€™s on that one. I order my nitros last night so Iā€™ll make some more launches once they come in. Those times were traction control off, 1 quick burn out, then launch brake boosted at 2,200 ish rpm. Hopefully with the sticker tires Iā€™ll be able to launch the right way and get my times down. Iā€™m trying to crack the 3-4 barrier lol Iā€™ll take a 3.99 lol I gonna bring it for a dyno pull this summer also so Iā€™ll have numbers then for that.
