Waiting for a good option here as well. I don’t want a hydraulic bearing change or some uniclutch universal fit adaptor thingy that ruins the stock feel. I just want a higher quality material stock geometry disc that can take more abuse and hold 150 more torque. Where’s all the excedy, ACT, OSG, ECS, Spec stage 1 sprung discs at?
I can’t imagine BMW engineered the single disc clutch/pressure plate to the absolute limit within this bellhousing…. Or did they?
Bloke i am shocked at the lack of clutch options as well. I guess the sales are not strong enough for other company's to support other options

Just looking at what's available from who for this car:

Clutchmasters:

Single Disk:

  • FX250SS (16340-SS0ZZ)
  • FX350SS (16340-SSZZ)
  • FX400SS 6-Puck (16340-SSC6)
  • FX400SS 8-Puck (16340-SSCL)
  • FX500SS Unsprung 6-Puck (16340-SSB6)
Twin Disk:
  • FX1000 w/ Flywheel (16340-TDKR-A)
CM Also has a Steel (FW-340-SF) and Aluminum (FW-340-AL) single mass flywheel options for their single disk clutch, as well as the Hydraulic release bearing (N16340-H) to replace the OEM bearing

Southbend:

Nothing officially released yet, but as of this video it looks like they were prototyping an OEM replacement that's compatible with the OEM Flywheel:

Uniclutch:
  • Uniclutch Track (Multi-Plate and Requires the Uniclutch Adapter)

Aside from the above, literally nothing else. I checked Spec, OS Giken, Ogura Racing Clutch (ORC), ACT, Exedy, Sachs and LuK

Hopefully there are more offerings as time goes on, not just for big power, but stock replacements or OEM+ replacements. Genuinely surprised there's nothing from either Exedy or Sachs even as an OEM replacement. People looking for single disc replacements will probably just have to stick to CM for now.

I believe our clutch is the same one as those on the MT of the S58 and S55. I am also surprised a company like Exedy didn’t release a replacement clutch for the S55, B58 & S58 drivetrain. Hell they didn’t even release a replacement for the N55 M2 or N54 1M and those clutches may even be the same one as ours.

There is definitely a strong business case for a range of replacement and racing clutches for the S55/B58/S58 drivetrains if they bother to look into how the MT drivetrain was shared across different generations of M cars and shared on different platforms.

I loved the Cusco/Exedy Hyper twin on the Evo 9. Stock driveabiity and it grips hard.

Someone needs to contact an Exedy sales rep and present a case.

As far as I know and have heard, the 2025 Z4 6MT is the same clutch and transmission as the MKV 6MT aside from the shifter itself and allegedly “better” weighted one Toyota put in the MKV.

I actually think the 2025 Z4 6MT will help push the adoption of new after market clutches once there are more owners on the road. The amount of 6MT MKV owners is just not enough for companies to develop anything,
I thought the Supra outsold the Z4 by something crazy, like 2:1.

The automatics, yes, very likely. I was only talking about the manual Z4. I’m not even sure if the 2025 6MT Z4 has started being delivered yet.

I will still be very surprised if the manual Z4 sales figures get anywhere close to 50% of the manual Supra sales. It's only going to be available as part of a $3500 upgrade package... so $70K MSRP (or more depending on other options). Even if you don't opt for the limited edition color... it's still essentially the same price.

I'm sure there are some dedicated Z4 fans that will cheer it's release and rush to order. However, I'd guess that any that aren't 100% committed to a Z4 specifically, are already included in the number of MKV MT sales. Many aren't likely to pay the premium just to have a soft-top, BMW branded version - when the hard-top non-BMW branded version is lighter, faster, and ~$10K less. I certainly could be wrong, but we'll see in a year.

I’m waiting around as well to hear the sales figures. That’s too much for a z4 6MT unless you are a diehard fan of the platform. A lot of YouTube online trolls in MKV 6MT videos commenting about “being better off” waiting for the Z4 6MT instead. We’ll find out if they put their money where their mouth is. I said it before and I’ll said it again, the MKV is the most misunderstood car in automotive history specially by purists.

Oh dear. I wasn't planning on swapping the clutch but now ya'll got me worried about another hole developing in my wallet 😮
Build slowly. Femto unlock then use some OTS maps or do flex fuel and go e50 to see where you start slipping. Worst case scenario, the Uni Clutch looks like a good option since the rest of the options are limited.
