I scoped it out, looked easy, a handful of nuts for the hangers and slip it off the DP. Went smoothly up to the “slip it off the DP” part. The F’er might as well be welded to the DP!

Any tips before I bust out the grinder and just cut it off?

Time to get the Jeep out.

Did you remove that cross piece of aluminum? Does that have any structural/rigidity significance?

yes, I removed it but reinstalled it afterward. Not sure I could have removed the stock or installed the new exhaust without doing so. I'm sure it does add something.

Heavy spray of WD-40 and a rubber mallet helps. Selective application of a two pound hand sledge also works.

What they say all sound like good ideas. Some you tube videos I watched people had to get aggressive for it to come off. My downpipe slid right out when I went to catless.

You need to pull apart the band clamp from the bottom side. Underneath it you will find a slot with a relief cut into the pipe. Use a pry bar or large flathead screwdriver to open the joint and release the exhaust from the downpipe.

I ended up just soaking it with wd40. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and it slid off like butter. After all of the banging, pulling and wiggling yesterday, I couldn’t believe it.
