3.0 base.
Want to start by figuring out the optimal wheel / tire size. Application would be a car that I can drive to the track.

I’m planning to modify suspension and add BBK + other performance mods.
Not sure if 18”, or 19” squared or staggered.

Looks are secondary.

budget not a major issue.

Thanks.

i'd suggest building towards a specific class (e.g., SCCA time trials). that way it makes it easier to pick and choose your parts.

What is your driving style? How do you like a car to feel? Do you like driving a car with understeer or oversteer? Do you track for lap times or fun? Answering these questions will help.

Thanks for the answer. I spent two weeks non stop checking forums, pics and talking to builders. Here’s what the plan I came up with:

I bought the MSS spring over struts suspension.

And two separate setups:

A street set up on staggered 19 inch very wide wheels (Titan TS5s) with thin wall rubber. F275/30 R305/30 - decided to put Contis instead of PS4S. (This is not my daily - basically drive to meets and show off)

For the track (my goal is to have a capable HPDE car where I can slowly get better times) will have a set of squares 18 wheels with thinner but more wall 200TW tires. Have not decided what specific size yet. Those I will get after I work in some cooling and better braking.

I will install the suspension this week with the new tires and take it for a better than stock alignment after.

What’s your track experience?

you should drive the car with fluids, pads, tires before figuring out what you actually need.

just starting out, super 200s are gonna mask mistakes, aero will mask mistakes, and just throwing a bunch of parts on is gonna cause a bunch of variables on how the car behaves.

I will take some time to get there. I’m not in a rush. I’m tracking the car with an instructor at every single step.

So yeah. Pads, brake fluid, cooling and a bunch of stuff will happen first.

at my age there is no need to rush, but There is gotta be a plan lined up from the beginning

I appreciate your approach (getting instruction, wanting to do things right, good equipment, having a plan...etc.). In bone stock form, with nothing other than brake pads, fluid, and tires, the Supra is a track weapon. It isn't perfect, but it's way more car than most of us can use.

I can't quite tell from your posts if you've ever done track events before (I'm leaning towards a "no"). If you haven't, this is a LOT of car for a first-timer. I've been doing this for 20+ years, and I've driven a lot of stuff...mostly low power momentum cars. My Supra is easily the fastest thing I've owned. My car is pretty stock-ish, and it still surprises me how capable it is.

My takeaway - don't put off your first event too long while you work through the perceived list of "needs." Tires, brake fluid, brake pads, send it.

Yes I have done HPDE with NASA.

I went with the car bone stock after the engine break in at 1200 miles.

The instructor suggested pads and brake fluid and go back again. Which I did. (I also changed the oil at that point)

I’m not gonna be back until December due to our grueling summers here in Miami. But in the meantime I have a nascar experience day in September. 😂😂😂

I am also one of the drivers for the medical team at the Miami F1 GP we are at turns 1,11 and 17 for the Porsche series, the F1 and the F1 academy this year, we’ve been doing that for 3 years and we are due back in 2024. There is track time for us but in a fully loaded Cayenne and on my own. So not a lot of learning except handling that brick as best as and as fast possible on the race line.

I’d rather have an instructor for as long as I can.

it's fine to do track mods even if the driving skills aren't there to extract the performance out of the parts. i would group mods into the following:

minimum safety mods:
"track grade" brake fluid and pads

recommended:
RS4 or V730 tires

additional negative camber in the front. you can install front lower control arm or install a new OEM hub that gains some negative camber.

check alignment. start with 0 toe front and 1/8'' toe in rear.

nice to have but requires some driving skills to extract performance:
penske coilovers, corner balance, replacing OEM rubber bushings with sphericals

aero

Link to this part? Not familiar with this at all. The front negative camber solutions I'm familiar with for this platform are camber plates (Verus if still stock-style springs, other options if 2.5"/2.25"/60mm coilover springs) or adjustable lower control arms.
